“For the last five decades, Chucho Valdés has been a key figure in the evolution of Afro-Cuban music, performing on the hottest stages in Cuba and developing his own distinct sound. During his career, he has won five Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards. We are thrilled to welcome Chucho Valdés for his UMS debut.
Valdés along with his band, the Afro-Cuban Messengers, will be celebrating his historically innovative ensemble Irakere, which was founded 40 years ago and included Cuban greats such as Arturo Sandoval and Paquito D’Rivera. This performance will celebrate Irakere while introducing audiences to a blazing new generation of Cuban talent.”
