The Crown: Contemporary Construction of Self in America

The Crown: Contemporary Construction of Self in America

The Crown: Shani Peters and Contemporary Construction of Self in America is an exhibit and series of projects created by visiting artist Shani Peters. Peters examines the intersection of Black Pride and success. How does society, culture and the individual label success. When, where and how is pride expressed about this success? When and why do ‘the accomplished’ experience backlash, rejection? When and why do they reject cultural or societal norms and expectations? These are some of the themes explored through video, photographs and a photo booth at the Institute for the Humanities Gallery and GalleryDAAS in Haven Hall on the University of Michigan Campus. Mon-Fri, 9-5 pm at the Institute. DAAS hours: M-Th 3-5pm, Fri. 1-3pm
